LETFED Africa is an organization limited by guarantee dedicated to economic and social empowerment of women, youth, and rural communities through various trainings, community-based projects and other empowerment actions.

LETFEDAfrica projects and training interventions have seven main focus areas. These are computer literacy and digitalization, economic empowerment for women and sustainability actions, Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) formation and financial literacy trainings, youth-focused apprenticeship interventions, agricultural interventions, entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises (SME) development, as well as advocacy for social justice, equality, and equity within society. All these interventions are aimed at fighting poverty and improving the livelihood conditions of the marginalized in society.

Our methods used over the period include experience sharing, lectures, entrepreneurial games, role plays, group work, and entrepreneurial videos. Training modules include: entrepreneurship and SME development; business cash flow management; record-keeping; basic accounting principles (bookkeeping); business planning and decision-making; market positioning; production management; financial literacy; banking culture; and access to financial services. Other activities include facilitating the development of VSLAs, empowering women to grow cash crops during their off-farm seasons, among others.

Over the past four (4) years, we have trained and equipped 3,250 youth and women entrepreneurs with these skills mentioned above using various practical methodologies, such as the competency-based economies through the formation of entrepreneurs (CEFE) methodology.

Competency-based economies through the formation of entrepreneurs (CEFE) is a successful method of teaching business development. It is a comprehensive set of training instruments using an action-oriented approach and experiential learning methods to develop and enhance the business management and personal competencies of a wide range of target groups, mostly in the context of income and employment generation and economic development.

We have equipped and coached many SME operators. These SME operators have been able to grow their businesses, generate enough profit, and create employment.

LETFED Africa uses three-tier project phases, which are the pre-project phase, the actual project phase, and the post-project phase, for its activity’s implementation. We are not just interested in our training activities but are also interested in the outputs our trainings bring, the outcome, and the impact that is achieved after these trainings. For these reasons, we have adopted the three-tier activity implementation approach so we can measure our inputs with the outputs as well as the impact.

Operational Principle: The organization operates on the ASK principle

A = ATTITUDE (Loyal and Reliable in Executing Training and Empowerment Projects).

S = SKILLS (Effective and Efficient Innovators).

K = knowledge (expert in our field of activities).

BUSINESS COACHING

Letfed Africa has coached and will continue to coach many small SMEs from the start-up stage to the growth stage. These SMEs have been able to generate enough profit and create employment for other young people. Some of the SMEs currently coached by Letfed Africa include the following:

  • Eric Farms:

Eric Farms is located at Jamasi Dawu in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region. Eric Farms is a poultry farm operated by a 30-year-old young man with the name Eric Ekum. The farm started with 276 birds. Currently, the number of birds has increased from 276 to 527 and is still counting. One part-time employee had been recruited to assist with the farm activities.

  • Geocol Farms:

Geocol Farms is a rat and grasscutter rearing farm operated by a young man named Collins Atta Junior. The farm is located at Apromase in the Ejisu municipality of the Ashanti Region. The farm started with six (6) rabbits. Currently, four (4) grass cutters have been added to the farm. Coaching is done to ensure there is the right food and medication for the animals, as well as proper farm management practices. Geocol Farm was started out of an idea generated by the owner during one of Letfed Ghana’s entrepreneurial trainings organized for potential migrants in the Ejisu Municipality.

  • Befamplus Enterprise:

Befamplus Enterprise is a soap and detergent-making enterprise started and operated by Madam Ellen Boatemaa at Agona in the Sekyere South District. Through our coaching intervention, the business has grown to supply detergents to various individuals, retail stores, and various organizations, such as the Sekyere South District Assembly, in recent times. Reports gathered indicate Befamplus has significantly contributed to the fight against COVID-19 in the Sekyere south district with the provision of sanitizers and detergents. Befamplus Enterprise currently has three casual workers.

  • Mpaebo Tiefuo Business Center:

Mpaebo Tiefuo Business Center is a dressmaking and rental enterprise operated by Mrs. Esther Frimpong. There was no proper management of the business cash flow and no record-keeping of the business activities.
